VAMOZ CONSTRUCTION has completed a research center and a unique test track for autonomous vehicles at VŠB-TUO

The CPIT TL4 building will provide international research teams with the facilities needed to conduct research on autonomous mobility, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other technologies with direct industrial applications. The six-story building is complemented by a 380-meter-long test track, which is the first of its kind among Czech universities.

The black-and-white, six-story building we constructed on the campus of VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava features a number of interesting technical and environmental solutions. The building includes a total of 92 photovoltaic panels with a combined output of nearly 54 kWp. Forty panels are mounted on the roof and another 52 on the building’s facade.

The building also has infrastructure in place for 5G technology, including fiber-optic cabling and power supply to the masts. Rainwater from the roof, the parking lot, and part of the test track is collected in a storage tank and gradually seeps into the subsoil to retain as much water as possible in the vicinity of the building. A high-performance heat pump serves as the primary source of heating and cooling for the entire facility.

The new CPIT TL4 center is part of the REFRESH project, which aims to strengthen collaboration between the research community and industry and accelerate the adoption of new technologies in real-world operations.

“Our goal is not theory that ends up on a shelf, but applied research with rapid transfer into practice. Fields such as automated mobility, humanoid robotics, sensor networks, and advanced AI represent an opportunity for industry to save billions of crowns. The new facility, with its unique test track, gives us exactly the tools we need to rapidly deploy cutting-edge innovations into real-world applications and business operations,” said Igor Ivan, Rector of VŠB-TUO and Director of the REFRESH project.

For VAMOZ CONSTRUCTION, this project was exceptional not only because of its technical solution but also because of the purpose of the entire structure.

“For us, the construction of CPIT TL4 was an extraordinary project simply because of who commissioned it and for what purpose. We are a company from this region, and we view the VŠB-TU Ostrava campus as a hub for prestigious projects. We are so pleased to have been able to participate in a construction project that will serve the next generation of engineers and researchers in the field of autonomous vehicle development—which represents the future of global road transportation. “We wish everyone involved in these projects many years of productive use of both the building and the test track,” says Dalibor Maťa, Chairman of the Board of Directors at VAMOZ CONSTRUCTION.
